POSITION SUMMARY

This position provides a variety of technical work for the Information Technology (IT) Department, including, but not limited to, deploying, configuring, maintaining, securing, and monitoring all active network equipment/software in order to ensure smooth network operation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. However, they are not to be construed as exclusive or all–inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may also be required or assigned.

  • Supports Information Systems functions under the direction of the Information Technology Director.
  • Installs and supports LANs, WANs, network segments, Internet, and intranet systems.
  • Identifies and solves any problems that may arise with computer networks and systems.
  • Analyzes and troubleshoots problems of computer users with applications, procedures, software, and hardware County-wide.
  • Establishes network by evaluating network performance issues including availability, utilization, throughput, goodput, and latency; plans and executes the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of equipment; defines network policies and procedures; establishes connections and firewalls.
  • Ensures the County’s network is current and operating as intended.
  • Secures network by developing network access, monitoring, control, and evaluation; maintains documentation; adheres to department procedures and improves/revises procedures.
  • Responsible for documentation and updates to installation, configuration, deployment, and maintenance procedures.
  • Recommends upcoming network needs to the Director that would require purchase of additional software and/or hardware.
  • Set up and maintain new and existing servers, both physical and virtual.
  • Set up and maintain user accounts.
  • Maintain county firewall, antivirus, and other security systems. Helps maintain the Juneau County website while building the new website.
  • Maintains and upgrades the current phone system.
  • Maintains confidentiality to protect the organization's value and security.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
    • Knowledge of application transport and network infrastructure protocols.
    • Knowledge of best practices around management, control, and monitoring of server infrastructure.
    • Knowledge of firewalls, Internet VPN’s remote implementation, troubleshooting, and problem resolution.
    • Knowledge of administrative policies and procedures of the County.??
    • Knowledge of current office practices and procedures and knowledge of the operation of standard office equipment and software.
    • Knowledge of county, state, and federal programs pertaining to regulations and mandates under which the department functions.
    • Ability to quickly learn technologies and products using documentation and internet resources.
    • Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices.
    • Ability to maintain accurate records of assigned activities.
    • Skill in troubleshooting and resolving computer hardware, software, and peripheral problems.
    • Skill in time management; prioritizing duties to accomplish a high volume of quality work product requiring minimal supervision.
    • Ability to define problems, exercise sound judgment, and address a variety of situations successfully.
    • Knowledge and ability to follow the policies and practices contained in the County Personnel Handbook.
    • Ability to work the allocated hours of the position and respond after hours if needed.
