Ducks Unlimited, Inc., the world’s leading wetland and waterfowl conservation organization, seeks a self‑motivated civil engineering technician to support ongoing habitat efforts within Kentucky. This role works out of the NRCS Field Office in Mayfield and focuses on Survey, Drafting, and Construction Management for NRCS projects.
Responsibilities- Coordinate with design engineers and the Regional Biologist on project‑related tasks, site identification, assessment, and wetland restoration plans.
- Perform topographic surveys using total station and GPS equipment.
- Assist with drafting designs in AutoCAD Civil3D and prepare related drawings, including topographic survey drawings, land development plans, detailed design drawings, construction/staking plans, cross‑sections, alignments, corridors, feature lines, profiles, earthwork and grading tools, as‑built/record drawings, and details needed for permit applications.
- Conduct field inspection and oversee construction management to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and schedules.
- Represent DU and NRCS with local, state, and federal personnel, private landowners, and conservation partners in a professional manner.
- Two‑year technical degree in land surveying, civil engineering technology, construction management, or computer‑aided design.
- Extensive experience in land surveying, AutoCAD, and construction inspection/management.
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Self‑motivated, goal‑oriented, and able to solve problems in a team environment.
- Knowledge of USDA Farm Bill programs and NRCS Design Standards preferred.
- Willingness to obtain or already holding a Part 107 FAA Certificate for commercial drone operation.
- Experience with ATVs, outboard boats, and overnight travel desirable.
Field work includes extensive outdoor activity, sometimes under difficult environmental conditions, with use of ATVs and boats. Overnight travel and work outside normal business hours may be required; weekend work is rare.
