Job Description

Computer operations support technician responsible for maintaining a computer laboratory, assisting faculty and staff, training users, troubleshooting hardware and software, and ensuring a secure and orderly environment.

Representative Duties
  • Organize and operate a computer laboratory for training and practical use; schedule lab use and assist faculty and staff with equipment operation and applications software.
  • Maintain in‑service records and other databases required for computer projects.
  • Provide lab support and informal and formal training to lab users and other school computer users; assist with the creation and production of training materials.
  • Adjust and maintain computer equipment; identify equipment malfunction to assure proper maintenance and repair; troubleshoot hardware and software problems.
  • Provide user support in the lab and on the telephone to computer system users at District school sites.
  • Maintain a hardware inventory and maintenance records for lab equipment.
  • Provide for lab security.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly laboratory environment.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to the Professional Code of Ethics.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Computer operations and related information processing.
  • Use of computer utility software.
  • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
  • Various word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
  • Operating procedures and practices appropriate to an instructional computer laboratory.
  • Modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
  • Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
Education and Experience

Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma, G.E.D. Certificate or demonstrated progress toward obtaining a G.E.D. including college‑level coursework in computer‑related technologies and at least three years experience in the operation and maintenance of microcomputers and peripheral equipment.

Job Requirements
  • High School/Trade School degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
