This is a highly responsible position in the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet. The employee is expected to perform all duties to the best of their ability, act in a responsible manner at all times, demonstrate leadership qualities, and treat all staff, youth, and persons with respect. Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To, The Following

  • Assists in daily operations of a Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) facility under direction of the Juvenile Facility Manager or Administrative Coordinator with regards to treatment and business responsibilities.
  • Assists in the daily operations of the program and provides daily supervision to assigned staff. Recommends personnel actions including disciplinary, etc.
  • Administers all aspects of the facility in the absence of the Juvenile Facility Manager or Administrative Coordinator. Interprets and enforces policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates American Correctional Association (ACA) accreditation process.
  • Consults with attorneys, parents, departmental personnel and other interested parties as they relate to services provided to juveniles in DJJ care.
  • May be required to restrain out-of-control juveniles.
  • Applicants should successfully pass a physical examination and be able to perform all essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodation. The cost of the physical examination will be billed through the employee’s health insurance; however, any applicable co-pays will be reimbursed by the department.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR

SKILLS:

Two years of experience in public or business administration.

EDUCATION:

Experience in the supervision and care of young adults (ages 12-21) in a community setting, residential, correctional, group home, detention, military, or day treatment program will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Two years of this experience must have been as a supervisor in a community setting, residential, correctional, group home, detention, military, or day treatment program.

Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
