The Med/Surg unit at Jackson Purchase Medical Center embodies a culture of teamwork and effective communication. This is a 64-bed unit that supports optimal patient care. The RN - Medical Surgical Unit provides direct patient care to patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.

• Assesses the patient's condition and nursing care needs
• Sets goals and prescribes appropriate nursing interventions to meet physical, psychological, social and rehabilitative needs
• Develops individual nursing care plans
• Implements care plans and makes revisions as needed
• Evaluates patient care outcomes
• Collaborates with physicians and other hospital staff
• Administers medications, treatments and therapies
• Communicates with patients and oversees provision of care
• Provides patients and/or family with instruction and education relevant to condition
• Accurately documents nursing observations, assessments, medications, treatments, and other care given

• Critical thinking skills
• Decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision
• Capable of working in a stressful environment and taking appropriate action

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate's degree required
• Bachelor's degree preferred

• Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire

• Registered Nurse licensed to work in the State of Kentucky
• New Graduates may work under a KY provisional license for up to 6 months with the expectation that an RN license will be obtained within the first 6 months of employment
