Provides overall management of one or more specific engineering & design efforts to ensure that the client receives a project designed and engineered within the scope of the contract(s) to meet their needs on time and within budget. Also, coordinates directly with project management, construction leadership team, either Austin’s or others’, to ensure constructability and support of construction operations. The DPM is responsible for the successful delivery of the engineering scope of work on a project, within the terms of the contract, on time, on budget and in service to the client and the business objectives of the project.
Also, at times, acts as the liaison between the client and Austin. On engineering only projects will function as the primary leader of the project, on design-build projects will function as the primary leader of the engineering effort, typically working under a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager.
Begins to work independently performing a variety of assignments requiring the application of standard project management techniques for a small project or selected segments of a larger project. The incumbent must be capable of exercising independent judgment in evaluating, selecting, and applying standard project management techniques, procedures, and criteria focusing on Scope, Schedule, and Budget. Assignments have clear and specific objectives and require the investigation of a limited number of variables.
Requirements- BA/BS in an Architecture, Engineering or related field with 3-5 years related experience in multi-discipline project team leadership preferred.
- Field construction experience is a plus.
- Enter all information for engineering meeting minutes, change notifications, and engineering change orders.
- Exhibit familiarity of the overall budget/profitability, schedule, and quality for the engineering scope of work on projects assigned.
- Support overall project related leadership to engineering resources assigned to the project, including communication of scope, deadlines, requirements, etc.
- Assist with documenting all changes in engineering scope, ensuring that the Director of Engineering and the lead design project manager understand the consequent changes in cost and time.
- Assist with holding regularly scheduled (usually weekly or daily) project status check‑in meetings to ensure that the project is progressing, and that the project team is coordinated.
- Support proposal efforts as assigned.
- Assist in defining work packages and schedule / budget development.
- Assist in overall project documentation, including day-to-day reporting, and regular reporting to the client and internal, as well as effective and productive use of any project management or document management software platforms required by the assigned project(s).
- Assist with, if assigned, RFI process, submittal process, change management, etc.
- Create internal and client reports as assigned / required.
- Attend Project Progress Review meetings.
- For purposes of developing the respective skill sets, the Assistant DPM will be introduced to the following functions:
- Develop the engineering portions of the project execution plan and support the creation and maintenance of other elements of the project execution plan.
- Coordinate overall engineering effort across disciplines, review technical design conditions and make recommendations to the responsible engineer related to design improvement concepts, manage work effort ensuring the most efficient distribution of hours and drive the project team.
- Provide input to the Director of Engineering and Design or the discipline department managers on the performance of individuals on their project teams.
- Lead project estimating and proposal preparation to the extent required (work effort / hours estimation) as assigned.
