Position: DSP/Caregiver – Developmental Disabilities Support | Eastside Cuyahoga | Mayfield Area | Multiple shifts available

Bright Star Care is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and energetic Caregiver/Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide one-on-one support to an adult with developmental disabilities in both the home and community setting. This is an excellent opportunity for a caregiver who enjoys building meaningful relationships, promoting independence, and helping someone live a more active and fulfilling life.

Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one support in the home and community
  • Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), including hygiene, grooming, bathing, and personal care
  • Support participation in recreational, fitness, and community-based activities
  • Assist with meal preparation while following dietary restrictions and nutritional guidelines
  • Encourage participation in household tasks and independent living skills
  • Utilize visual schedules, routines, and positive reinforcement strategies
  • Support communication using verbal prompts and communication technology when appropriate
  • Provide close supervision in the community to ensure safety
  • Support successful transitions between activities and changes in routine
  • Utilize approved calming, redirection, and de-escalation techniques when needed
  • Monitor for safety concerns and immediately report significant observations
  • Maintain accurate documentation and follow individualized care plans
  • Collaborate closely with family members and the care team
Ideal Candidate Experience
  • Experience supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or developmental disabilities strongly preferred
  • Experience with behavior support, de-escalation techniques, and positive behavior supports preferred
  • Experience implementing structured routines, visual schedules, and task-based supports
  • Experience supporting individuals who use alternative or assistive communication methods preferred
  • Experience providing community-based support and supervision
  • Experience working independently in a home setting
  • Overnight caregiving experience is a plus
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least one year of caregiving, DSP, behavioral support
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Negative TB Test or Chest X-Ray
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Reliable Transportation and Proof of Insurance
  • Ability to lift, transfer, and assist clients safely
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm and professional during challenging situations
  • Ability to work independently while following established support plans
  • Commitment to maintaining client confidentiality and dignity
Preferred
  • DODD-certified Independent Provider
  • HHA, STNA, CNA, DSP, Nursing Assistant, or related training
