About

Our Team

The Med/Surg unit provides direct patient care to critically ill adult patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization. This position coordinates total nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching, acts as a patient advocate and works as part of a team with ancillary and non‑nursing departments.

You’ll Contribute
  • Perform plan‑of‑care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care treatments.
  • Document patient care given.
  • Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate to the care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  • Evaluate learning needs of patient and/or family and provide patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Advocate for the physical and emotional well‑being of the patient.
  • Float to other departments as needed to maintain safe nurse‑to‑patient ratios.
  • Manage ventilators, CPAP/BIPAP, and vapotherms.
  • Titrate and maintain critical drips on ICU patients, including knowledge of indications, contraindications, and side effects.
  • Pass a rhythm recognition test within 90 days of hire or transfer.

What We’re Looking For

Applicants should have a current Kentucky or compact state RN license and an associate’s degree from an accredited nursing school.

  • Certifications:

    Basic Life Support (BLS) required within one month of hire, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required within one year of hire, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within one year of hire, Handle with Care required within 30 days of orientation.
  • Education:

    Associate’s degree required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Licenses:
    Must have a current Kentucky or compact state RN license.
