Water Distribution Laborer

Overview

The City of Maysville is currently accepting applications for a full-time position with the Water Distribution Crew. The Water Distribution Laborer plays a crucial role in the City of Maysville's water utility department, responsible for assisting in the maintenance, repair, and installation of the water distribution system. This role involves physically demanding tasks and a commitment to ensuring the efficient and safe distribution of clean water to residents and businesses in the city.

• Assist in the maintenance and repair of water mains, service lines, and related infrastructure to ensure a reliable water supply to customers. This may involve excavation, pipe laying, and pipe fitting tasks.
• Collaborate with the team to identify and locate leaks in the water distribution system, promptly reporting findings to supervisors for appropriate action.
• Assist in operating valves to control and regulate the flow of water throughout the distribution network.
• Help install and inspect water meters, ensuring proper functionality and accurate readings for billing purposes.
• Assist in the maintenance and testing of fire hydrants to ensure they are in optimal working condition.
• Collaborate with water quality technicians to collect water samples for analysis to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
• Operate and maintain various equipment, such as backhoes, trenchers, and other machinery, following safety guidelines.
• Respond to service calls related to water leaks, damaged infrastructure, or customer complaints promptly and efficiently.
• Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment for oneself and team members.
• Interact with customers in a professional and courteous manner when responding to service requests or inquiries.
• Other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects and working in various weather conditions.
• Basic knowledge of water distribution systems and maintenance procedures is preferred but not mandatory.
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
• Availability for on-call duty during emergencies, after-hours situations, evenings and weekends.
• Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.

• The Water Distribution Laborer will primarily work outdoors, exposed to potential hazards such as heavy machinery, excavation sites, and traffic.

Rate of pay: $15 - $24. Compensation will be based on the candidate's experience, certifications, and licenses relevant to the position.
