Position Overview
A full‑time Research Assistant II position in the Microbiology department at Loyola University Chicago, located on the Maywood‑Health Sciences Campus. The role is grant‑funded and supports laboratory research and animal work.
Duties and Responsibilities- Research projects by performing lab assays and analysis.
- Carry out experiments as instructed by the Principal Investigator (PI).
- Assist PI, research staff, and students with lab procedures and perform statistical analysis.
- Analyze biological literature, including primary scientific literature, requiring familiarity with basic knowledge in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Virology, and Immunology and the ability to conduct productive searches of scientific databases.
- Assist PI in preparing IACUC applications, grant applications, and manuscript submissions.
- Maintain orderly records.
- Maintain a safe and orderly working environment.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's Degree in Biological or Physical Sciences.
- 1–2 years of previous job‑related experience.
- Master's Degree in Biological or Physical Sciences.
- 3–5 years of previous job‑related experience.
- Strong interest in science with self‑motivation.
- Fast learner able to apply new skills.
- Proficiency with mouse colony management and handling.
- Familiarity with IACUC protocol writing and vivarium regulations.
- Ability to multitask and coordinate multiple research projects involving mice.
- Ability to follow existing protocols and develop new procedures using publicly available methods.
- Ability to work independently, manage time and tasks accurately.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Prism and other routine computer software for data analysis.
- Team player with strong interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, Internet and e‑mail applications.
- Database skills.
Hourly rate: $18.50 – $22.50. Full‑time, 40 hours per week, non‑exempt.
