About the Position

The Supervisory Firefighter (Basic Life Support/Hazardous Materials Technician) directs day-to-day operations, planning and organizing firefighter operations to include technical and administrative supervision of the firefighter forces. This position is included under the provisions of Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) and may have both a maximum entry age and a mandatory retirement date.

Specialized Experience

One year of specialized experience which includes:

  • Providing oversight of personnel performing firefighting duties;
  • Directing the placement of firefighting equipment and personnel to ensure maximum utilization in fire control operations;
  • Overseeing fire alarm communication center operations to ensure all firefighting equipment and personnel are dispatch as required;
  • Performing required maintenance on rescue tools, ground ladders, fire hoses, ropes, harnesses, and hardware to maintain operability.
  • Qualifications

    This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector II, HAZMAT Incident Commander certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M AND a State and National Registry EMT Certification Card indicating a future expiration date when applicable.
