Description (objectives of the position)

The Shipping Dock Lead is responsible for overseeing outbound operations in a fast-paced produce warehouse. This role ensures accurate order fulfillment, proper loading of temperature‑sensitive products, and on‑time shipment to customers. The Lead supervises dock staff, coordinates logistics, and maintains food safety and quality standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

A typical day in this Inbound Lead role includes coordinating both operational and team activities to ensure smooth and accurate shipping processes.

  • Lead daily shipping dock and floor operations and personnel (Receiving reports, lead correct sequence fill out, damage reports).
  • Support Inbound Shift Supervisor in preparing and/or updating and completing daily recaps for all shipment projected to arrive and be treated for the day.
  • Train and mentor team members on safety, efficiency, and procedures.
  • Support and assist the Inbound Shift Supervisor making sure all inbound conveyors, lines and printers are working properly.
  • Support inbound Shift Supervisor making sure the shipping materials (labels, recaps, changes of ribbons, etc.) are done and refilled.
  • Upon arrival of temporary staff, support the temps workers sign attendance log, lead pre‑shift stretching exercises and assign team members to inbound or outbound areas according to operational needs.
  • During the treatment process, ensure temps workers are following the correct processes for accumulating and making sure they are sending the correct quantities per shipments.
  • Covering floor operations when needed.
  • Train temporary staff on pallet breakdown and accumulation process based on commodity/configurations, and customer requirements.
  • Monitor attendance and performance.
  • Track output and productivity (if line is slow, review and address the issue, if a line has downtime or deviations, address them promptly, and escalate issues if necessary).
  • Detect safety hazards and/or quality issues during the process and direct them to the supervisors.
  • Address bottlenecks and operational issues.
  • Resolve day‑to‑day production issues.
  • Recommend process improvements.
  • Being capable to assist in managing the warehouse/production operations.

A typical day in this Outbound Lead role includes coordinating both operational and team activities to ensure smooth and accurate shipping processes.

  • Support Dock Supervisor and/or Dock Shift Supervisor in preparing shipment materials in advance, including creating labels, pre‑filling and updating recaps and pallet labels for various treated commodities. This may also involve placing temperature monitors on designated pallets, finalizing recap documentation, and verifying that case counts remain accurate and are not mixed between shipments.
  • Activate or deactivate sortation systems (e.g., Numina) based on the specific sortation runs scheduled for the day.
  • Upon arrival of temporary staff, ensure the temps workers sign attendance log, lead pre‑shift stretching exercises and assign team members to inbound or outbound areas according to operational needs.
  • Welcome and orient new temporary workers by providing a brief overview of tasks, safety expectations, and workflow. Pair them with experienced employees on the operations floor for hands‑on guidance.
  • Train temporary staff on palletization standards, including pallet color‑coding by commodity, correct box orientation, and proper placement of pallet labels for treated shipments.
  • Assign a team member to manage the exception lane, ensuring accurate tracking of cases.
  • Support in clearing stocked boxes of products or RPC’s on conveyors.
  • Provide instruction on scanning procedures and directing cases to the correct sortation lanes.
  • Oversee the temps workers performance during the whole treatment process.
  • Complete and update recap documentation using information from internal systems (e.g., SharePoint) and inbound sequencing details.
