PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide Deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) services to Oral DHH students that need daily support from a certified Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TODHH). Specialized techniques, such as speech reading, natural gestures, and visual cues, along with amplification will teach students to maximize the use of residual hearing; leading to students' ability to develop English linguistics and language acquisition.
Sign language is not used in this approach to develop English proficiency; a highly qualified TODHH specializing in Aural-Oral Deaf Education will guide students in developing reading and writing skills. Facilitate the educational progress of students based on their Individualized Education Program (IEP). Collect and analyze multiple sources of data to provide input on progress regarding the general education.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's Degree from accredited university, required
- Valid Texas Teacher Certification, required
- Valid Texas Deaf and Hard of Hearing Certification, with required endorsements for subject/level assigned or other permits as approved by state, required
- Valid Listening and Speaking Language Specialist Certification (LSLS), preferred
- Ability to work with DHH students
- Knowledge of auditory training.
- Knowledge of Oral/Aural Strategies.
- Knowledge of Admission, Review, Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and IEP goal setting process and implementation.
- Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
3 years' experience in working with students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, required
1 year experience working with Oral DHH students, preferred

Assist in restraining students in crisis situations, frequent prolonged hours and occasional evening meetings; occasional lifting or moving up to 45 pounds and over; monitor students for prolonged period of time, monitor multi-task/ projects; meet deadline, develop effective relationship with students, staff, and parents.
