Role Mission
IDEA Special Education teachers are responsible for the achievement and support of special education. They develop individualized plans and work with students who have a wide range of learning, cognitive, emotional, and physical disabilities. They provide in‑class support for reading, writing, and math to students with outlined service minutes support and teach content mastery for students with outlined accommodations and service minutes support.
The IDEA Special Education teacher serves as a bridge between home and school for our highest‑need students and their families.
This is a grant‑funded position; ongoing employment depends on grant continuation.
Compensation- Starting teacher salary for new teachers is $57,500. This role is eligible for various stipends based on certifications, credentials, and campus leadership ranging from $500 to $4,000 each.
- Performance‑based compensation and additional hourly compensation for after‑school tutoring or Saturday school as assigned.
- Paid Family Leave: up to 8 weeks for birth or adoption of a child.
- Tuition Reimbursement: up to 50% of tuition toward a qualifying degree program, up to $5,250 per year.
- Employer‑Paid Mental/Behavioral Health: five face‑to‑face counseling sessions within a year, unlimited 24/7 telephonic counseling, and other work‑life services at no cost.

- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four‑year institution (required).
- Experience in a Special Education classroom setting (strongly preferred).
- Valid Texas state certification in Special Education (required).
- Knowledge of core academic subject(s) assigned.
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
- Ability to instruct students and manage student behavior.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt to a multitude of situations.
- Ability to facilitate Admission, Review and Dismissal meetings.
- Strong family engagement and communication.
- Record of results with academically at‑risk students.
- Adapt lessons to meet the needs of students.
- Develop, implement, assess, and update Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Teach small groups of academically at‑risk students in reading and/or math.
- Collect and analyze student data to inform instruction.
- Communicate student progress with parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators.
- Prepare students for transitions between grades and graduation.
- Implement state learning standards, IDEA curricula, and assessments.
- Submit weekly lesson plans two weeks in advance for feedback.
- Use formal and informal assessments to track progress.
- Use technology as a communication and educational tool.
- Implement a consistent behavior management system.
- Shape and develop a school‑wide culture of enthusiasm and community.
- Establish cooperative relationships with students and families.
- Host tutoring sessions as needed.
- Participate in manager check‑ins, grade‑level meetings, school‑wide meetings, and functions.
- Engage in summer and year‑long professional learning.
- Work at least 40 hours per week at school.
- Additional responsibilities may include after‑school tutoring or Saturday school as required.
- Oversee the daily work of a Special Education Co‑Teacher (para‑professional) in the RISE classroom.
