Job DescriptionPRIMARY
PURPOSE:
Provide leadership and expertise in curriculum and instruction with a focus on academic rigor and college readiness for all students. Provide leadership to the district’s instructional program by guiding, directing and monitoring the delivery of instructional services to students. Direct and coordinate broad Curriculum and Instruction activities having as their purpose the planning, development and implementation of policies, programs and practices in support of the academic design and delivery, professional development, staff training and student support functions of the District.
Provide counsel and assistance to other executive staff members and other divisions of the district. Actualize the goals of the Board of Trustees and the Superintendent of Schools through district-wide planning, direction, program initiatives, benchmarking and continuous improvement. Achieve the mission of refocused support and delivery of services to schools through coordination and supervision of staff departments. Commitment to leadership of the district’s strategic plan.
Advocate for programs that serve the whole child: the social, physical and emotional needs of students as well as their academic needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Master’s Degree required
Principal certification (EC-12), required
Superintendent certification, preferred
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
Demonstrate expertise in curriculum and instruction with a focus on student achievement, academic rigor and college readiness for all students
Demonstrate expertise in leading professional development and capacity building programs and
Initiatives
Demonstrate expertise in federal and state accountability system requirements and their role in meeting the broader academic goals for students
Demonstrate expertise in local, state and federal funding
Demonstrate communication skills – written and oral
Demonstrate organizational skills
Demonstrate ability to collaborate with students, staff, parents and members of the community
Knowledge of instructional programs in McAllen ISD schools
Knowledge of local, state and federal rules and regulations as pertains to certified personnel
Knowledge of current theory, research and practices in curriculum and instruction
Management style compatible with the position
Experience:
Central office experience, preferred
Principal experience (3 years), preferred
Experience in leading and monitoring district and/or campus improvement planning and budgeting,
including the related compliance issues regarding the planning, documentation and use of federal funds, required
Successful experience in leading educational systems resulting in improved student achievement, required
Successful experience in leading programs and services that support high levels of success for all learners, including special education, English Language Learners and others with unique learning needs, required
Days: 226
Daily Rate pay range:
Minimum: $581.77
Maximum: $811.69
Note:Starting pay for a new hire in a pay range plan will be determined individually based on each person's job-related experience and salaries paid to peer employees in the same position with similar experience.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in the development, implementation and coordination of policies and programs covering reading/language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, early childhood programs and other initiatives related to core academic areas.
