Responsibilities

The CBP Aircraft Quality Control Inspector is responsible for ensuring that assigned aircraft are maintained within required specifications of 14 CFR Parts 43, 91 and 125 and other FAA and DOD regulations, OEM instructions and CBP directives as required and are airworthy before operation. The inspector:

  • Inspects the work of Aircraft Mechanics on maintenance repairs and modifications of aircraft structures, engines, electrical, avionics and sub-systems.
  • Applies technical knowledge to determine proper equipment installation and operation.
  • Assists the maintenance department in solving complex problems by interpreting technical documentation such as blueprints and manufacturers’ manuals.
  • Makes entries in aircraft logs and records and provides guidance and technical expertise to lower level technicians.
  • Performs receiving, in‑process, final quality, flight safety inspections and functional operational tests for maintenance, modification and repair of military tactical aircraft systems.
  • Approves or rejects work performed by field team members to ensure compliance with customer specifications, standards and technical data.
  • Reviews and approves locally developed procedures and solutions for complex repair situations.
  • Analyzes defects and interprets quality control rejection and failure trends.
  • Monitors safety, training, and certification requirements; performs daily safety inspections and foreign object damage inspections.
  • Monitors tool control programs, inspects and maintains calibration records.
  • Maintains quality, safety, training and certification records and coordinates with the Customer Quality Assurance Representative on quality matters.
  • Inspects forms and records related to aircraft maintenance and monitors program processes such as engine oil consumption, logs, hydraulic contamination, NDI, electrical static discharge, certification programs, confined space entry, tool control, foreign object damage, material control, weight and balance, fall protection and safety programs.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining ground and flight operation SOPs, quality plans and safety plans; assists in briefing and debriefing functional check flights.
  • Uses government computer systems to access technical references for airframe repairs and training requirements.
  • Documents maintenance per QA and regulatory requirements, complies with work order timekeeping procedures, maintains cleanliness, performs weekly FOD walk‑downs, and mitigates risks.
  • Reports missing, lost, or unattended tools; ensures tool control; inventories and inspects tools; handles hazardous materials safely.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and may require travel to other sites.
Minimum Requirements
  • Must obtain and maintain a CBP Background Investigation Suitability clearance; US Citizenship required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Five (5) years of experience in rotary wing aircraft.
  • Valid Airframe and Power Plant (A&P) License.
  • Valid FAA Inspection Authorization (IA).
  • Ability to obtain a government flight line driver’s license and possession of a valid United States driver’s license.
  • Experience providing technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers; excellent organizational skills; prioritizes workload to meet aircraft delivery schedule.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
Physical Requirements / Working Environment
  • Lifting, reaching, bending, walking, pulling, sitting, standing, crouching, stooping, kneeling, and stretching for prolonged periods.
  • Working in cramped, awkward, and strained positions; climbing ladders, platforms, scaffolding, and aircraft structures.
  • Carrying items up to 40 pounds or using assistance for heavier objects.
  • Wearing personal protective equipment for HAZMAT operations.
  • May work night shifts; may work in aircraft maintenance hangars or outdoors; some domestic travel may be required.
Compensation

Hourly Rate: $45.83. The posting remains open for at least three days, with a closing date no earlier than three days after the original posting.
