A well-established and growing community-focused financial institution is seeking an experienced Mortgage Loan Officer to join its expanding mortgage lending team. This individual will play a key role in helping individuals and families achieve home ownership while building strong relationships throughout the local community.

Position OverviewThe Mortgage Loan Officer will be responsible for originating residential mortgage loans, developing new business opportunities, and cultivating referral relationships with real estate professionals, builders, financial advisors, community organizations, and other strategic partners.
This position requires a consultative sales approach, strong mortgage lending expertise, and a commitment to helping borrowers navigate the home financing process with confidence and ease.
Key Responsibilities Business Development & Relationship Management- Generate new mortgage lending opportunities through personal production and referral development.
- Establish and maintain relationships with Realtors, builders, attorneys, financial professionals, and community organizations.
- Actively participate in networking, community outreach, and business development activities.
- Identify cross-selling opportunities and collaborate with internal banking partners to deepen customer relationships.
- Develop and execute strategies to increase market share and loan production.
- Serve as the primary point of contact throughout the mortgage lending process.
- Consult with prospective borrowers regarding financing options and loan programs.
- Conduct borrower interviews and gather financial information necessary for loan qualification.
- Pre-qualify applicants and structure loan solutions that meet customer needs.
- Educate customers on available mortgage products and lending requirements.
- Complete mortgage applications and collect supporting documentation.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable lending regulations and investor guidelines.
- Coordinate with processors, underwriters, and closing teams to facilitate a smooth transaction.
- Monitor loan progress from application through closing.
- Communicate proactively with borrowers, referral partners, and internal stakeholders regarding loan status and next steps.
- Resolve documentation, underwriting, or closing issues as they arise.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of mortgage lending regulations and industry requirements.
- Ensure compliance with all federal and state lending laws, including RESPA, TRID, HMDA, FHA, VA, FNMA, and FHLMC guidelines.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate loan documentation and records.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
- Active NMLS license or ability to obtain licensing within a designated timeframe.
- Minimum of 2 years of residential mortgage lending, mortgage banking, retail banking, brokerage, or related financial services experience.
- Proven ability to develop referral relationships and generate mortgage production.
- Strong understanding of conventional, FHA, VA, and government-backed mortgage programs.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and customer service skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Proficiency with mortgage origination systems and standard business software applications.
- Established network of referral relationships within the local market.
- Demonstrated history of mortgage loan production and business development success.
- Experience working within a community banking or relationship-driven lending environment.
- Bilingual capabilities are a plus.
- A self-starter with strong sales and relationship management skills.
