Job Description:
We are seeking a Medical Assistant to join the ASAS Health team! This position performs various duties and responsibilities in a manner that emphasizes quality of care and customer service. The incumbent must work collaboratively with all Clinical services staff to support direct patient services, exhibiting flexibility and a can-do attitude. Patient services are the key priority in this position, requiring the MA to serve as a point of contact with other internal and external departments, all to foster an environment that promotes patient comfort and trust.
The position must exemplify the core values and mission of the organization, consistently exercising utmost discretion, diplomacy and tact in patient/staff interactions.
- Prepares for patient visits by reviewing and updating patient records prior to face‑to‑face encounters and/or virtual (Telehealth) visits, checking for recent test results, lab results, and correspondence.
- Maintains exam rooms according to protocols: cleans rooms between patient exams to ensure comfort and infection‑control compliance; ensures supplies are stocked.
- Appropriately prepares patients for a visit and alerts the physician or mid‑level provider when the patient is ready.
- Provides initial medical screening: greets patients, records weight, height, temperature, blood pressure, and basic medical history, and documents accurately in the medical chart according to accepted standards.
- Assists physicians or mid‑level providers upon request during the examination.
- Utilizes time constructively by restocking rooms/shelves/trays, checking supplies, and ensuring all areas are clean and orderly.
- Excellent communication skills for taking medical histories, understanding instructions, and documenting patient information.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff, demonstrating diplomacy and tact.
- Beginner‑to‑intermediate computer and phone skills.
- Flexibility regarding job duties and assignments; willingness to cross‑train within other departments.
- Ability to multi‑task and work effectively in a high‑stress, fast‑moving environment.
- Cultural sensitivity and proven ability to work with ethnically diverse populations.
- Working knowledge of Universal Precautions and professionalism.
- Knowledge of confidentiality and non‑disclosure as required by HIPAA.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish and other languages strongly preferred.
- Valid Texas driver’s license preferred; ability to travel as required.
- High school graduate (or GED) required.
- Current, valid certification as a medical assistant preferred.
- Current, valid CPR certification.
New hires who join without a current Medical Assistant certification must obtain certification or recertification within 90 days of starting, with up to $250 reimbursed for exam and training materials.
