ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure resident’s room is ready for receiving the resident (e.g., bed made, name tags, admission kit).
- Greet residents, escort them to their room, introduce them to roommates and other staff.
- Inventory and mark resident’s personal possessions as instructed.
- Transport residents to new rooms or receiving area and assist with loading/unloading from vehicles.
- Perform all assigned tasks in accordance with established policies, procedures and supervisor instructions.
- Create a warm, personal and positive environment throughout the unit and shift.
- Report complaints, grievances, and any occupational exposures (blood, body fluids, infectious materials, hazardous chemicals) to supervisors.
- Participate in the nursing report upon reporting for duty.
- Assist residents with daily dental and oral hygiene, bath functions, personal care, and keep them dry.
- Change bed linens and keep linens tight to avoid wrinkles.
- Assist residents with bowel and bladder functions, maintain intake and output records.
- Perform restorative and rehabilitative procedures, change dressings, bandages and binders.
- Provide eye and ear care (compresses, instillations, eyeglasses/hearing aids) as instructed.
- Answer resident calls promptly and check residents who cannot call for help frequently.
- Observe and report pressure areas, skin breakdowns, injuries, and other changes in condition.
- Turn bedfast residents at least every two hours.
- Perform special treatments as instructed.
- Prepare residents for meals, serve food trays, assist with feeding, keep water pitchers clean and provide snacks.
- Participate in in‑service training for tasks involving exposure to blood/body fluids.
- Practice hand hygiene before and after service.
- Notify the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse of any resident leaving or missing the facility.
- Follow all safety precautions, store supplies off the floor, clean and disinfect resident care equipment.
- Perform routine housekeeping duties related to nursing care procedures.
- Report hazardous conditions, safety violations, isolation precautions, and PPE use to the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse.
- Inform supervisors of any changes in a resident’s condition and maintain confidentiality of care information.
- Treat all residents fairly, with kindness, dignity, respect, and privacy – knock before entering rooms.
- Report grievances, abuse allegations, or misappropriation of resident property.
- Honor resident refusals of treatment requests.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
