General Statement of Job
The Surveillance System Specialist maintains the college’s vast high-definition surveillance camera program that includes approximately 1,000 cameras and ensures that cameras, network switches, and servers are operating properly. Provides technical skills in the installation, repair, and maintenance of security cameras.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities- Manages equipment in the college’s high-definition surveillance camera program.
- Identifies the most effective location for surveillance camera installation.
- Allocates network switches, servers, and surveillance camera licenses, as needed.
- Ensures that all surveillance camera equipment is updated and properly maintained.
- Establishes a replacement program for surveillance camera equipment.
- Repairs surveillance cameras that are defective.
- Installs replacement or new surveillance cameras, as needed.
- Maintains a database of camera locations along with licenses and serial numbers.
- Performs work according to manufacturer’s specifications, departmental guidelines, industry standards, best practices and in compliance with federal and state laws.
- Researches and recommends equipment for upgrades or replacement.
- Assists in evaluation and implementation of campus-wide security needs.
- Assists with managing projects and contractors.
- Travels throughout the college district, as needed.
- Serves as Campus Security Authority.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
Associate’s Degree required.
At least one (1) year of experience in surveillance cameras/security, preferred.
Required Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, the Windows environment, and internet research skills. Must possess situation awareness skills. Ability to demonstrate exemplary work practices and work ethic. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of constituents both orally and in writing.
Ability to remain calm in difficult, dangerous, and high-stress emergency situations. Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment with minimal supervision. Must be willing and able to work various hours, various locations, and rotating shifts, including days, nights, weekends, College closures, and holidays, as needed. Ability to travel throughout the college district using own means of reliable transportation or College-owned vehicles.
Demonstrated commitment to achieving the vision and mission of South Texas College. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, college policies and procedures, governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present and respond to inquiries from groups of students, faculty, staff, administration and the general public.
