HVAC Mechanic - Rio Grande Valley (RGV), TX Summary
This position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems in the Rio Grande Valley area. Requires traveling to remote work sites, completing tasks independently, and responding to after‑hours emergency calls to mitigate issues and prevent equipment damage.
Responsibilities- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair problems with HVAC systems.
- Perform maintenance and operational checks on mechanical and electrical components.
- Install temporary and permanent units.
- Use hand and power tools for installations and repairs.
- Interact with customers to determine problems and repair requirements.
- Perform preventative maintenance on all types of HVAC equipment.
- Respond to and complete repair service orders.
- Maintain a flexible schedule, including on‑call rotations, occasional overtime, and some weekend work.
- Perform other duties as required or requested.
- High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
- CFC air conditioning license and minimum of five (5) years journey‑level experience with a variety of HVAC systems.
- CFC Universal certificate.
- Valid state Driver’s License and DHS facility access.
- At least three (3) years performing operations, maintenance, and repair of commercial/industrial air conditioning and refrigeration in an industrial setting.
- Knowledge of the refrigeration cycle and principles of air conditioning and pressure–temperature characteristics for different systems.
- Experience performing preventative maintenance on equipment and machinery.
- Experience responding to and completing repairs.
- Knowledge of HVAC installation, maintenance, and repair procedures.
- Knowledge of safety procedures.
- Motor coordination and manual dexterity.
- Prioritization and organization skills.
- Public and interpersonal relations skills.
- Oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Basic arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Must effectively respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, managers, and staff, write reports, and present information clearly to managers, colleagues, and customers.
Reasoning AbilityMust read and interpret various information to ensure procedures are followed.
Physical DemandsFrequent standing, walking, sitting, handling, and using hands; occasionally lifting more than 50 pounds. Requires good vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Work EnvironmentDaily travel using a company vehicle to sites around Laredo/Del Rio. Exposure to noise, dust, grease, machinery, chemicals, and inclement weather. Protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves may be required.
