Job Summary

Responsible for meeting with customers to determine electric needs and requirements. Design jobs to install, replace, or remove distribution facilities to support customer requests, reliability projects, or infrastructure improvement.

Job Duties / Responsibilities
  • Manage multiple distribution projects for new residential and commercial businesses, including customer meetings to assess service needs, design of overhead and underground line extensions, estimating costs, preparing construction drawings, and coordinating construction commits.
  • Coordinate and lead pre‑design and pre‑construction meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform engineering calculations for load studies, revenue justification, fault current, voltage drop, etc.
  • Provide leadership and technical support to local operations and ensure contract compliance with distribution design standards and practices.
  • Aid the Right of Way agent with permit acquisition and ROW documents.
  • Assist with storm restoration efforts, including local and out‑of‑town damage assessment activities.
Minimum Requirements Designer I
  • Either one of the following:
  • Bachelor’s degree (any discipline) OR
  • 2‑year Technical Associate’s degree OR
  • 1‑year Electric Utility Distribution (or Transmission) Design experience OR
  • 2+ years of Electric Utility field operational experience (Transmission Line or Substation, Distribution Line or Service, Field Metering)

Department Sr. Manager’s (or above) approval in lieu of all requirements.

Designer II
  • 2 years of Electric Utility Distribution (or Transmission) Design experience AND
  • One of the following:
  • Bachelor’s degree (any discipline) OR
  • 2‑year Technical Associate’s degree OR
  • Additional 2 years of Electric Utility Distribution (or Transmission) Design experience OR
  • 2+ years of Electric Utility field operational experience (Transmission Line or Substation, Distribution Line or Service, Field Metering)

Department Sr. Manager’s (or above) approval in lieu of all requirements.

Designer III
  • 4 years of Electric Utility Distribution (or Transmission) Design experience AND
  • One of the following:
  • Bachelor’s degree (any discipline) OR
  • 2‑year Technical Associate’s degree OR
  • Additional 2 years of Electric Utility Distribution (or Transmission) Design experience OR
  • 2+ years of Electric Utility field operational experience (Transmission Line or Substation, Distribution Line or Service, Field Metering)

Department Sr. Manager’s (or above) approval in lieu of all requirements.

Designer Sr
  • 6 years of Electric Utility Distribution (or Transmission) Design experience AND
  • One of the following:
  • Bachelor’s degree (any discipline) OR
  • 2‑year Technical Associate’s degree OR
  • Additional 2 years of Electric Utility Distribution (or Transmission) Design experience OR
  • 2+ years of Electric Utility field operational experience (Transmission Line or Substation, Distribution Line or Service, Field Metering)

Department Sr. Manager’s (or above) approval in lieu of all requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient with personal computer operations and related software.
  • Basic theory of electricity and ability to interpret construction drawings.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Self‑motivated, dependable team player.
  • Good math skills.
  • Familiar with National Electrical Safety Code and National Electrical Code.
  • Follow all Entergy safety policies and procedures; recognize, mitigate and respond to workplace hazards.
  • Maintain and care for company equipment and safeguard assets.
  • Deliver high‑level customer service in a pleasant and tactful manner.
  • Support a diverse and inclusive work environment.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement.

  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
