Description

This description outlines responsibilities for two clinic-based nursing positions: the Clinic Registered Nurse and the Oncology Registered Nurse with the Mississippi Cancer Institute.

For Clinic Positions

Under general supervision of the Clinic Administrator and Office Manager, the RN uses the nursing process to safely coordinate outpatient clinic patient care and education. The workload will be determined by the clinic’s appointment schedule, staffing levels, and the needs and priorities of the outpatient clinics. The RN may be reassigned within a clinic or float to another clinic based on daily schedule and staffing needs.

The position is up to 40 hours per week, with some weekend work possibly required.

The RN must function within the scope of approved policies, procedures, and regulations for the clinic and organization. Responsibilities include orientation and preceptorship of nursing, technical, and clerical personnel assigned to clinic; maintaining professional, non‑defensive relationships with peers, physicians, administration, patients, and visitors; documenting total clinic patient care; reviewing and maintaining patient charts per clinic policy; and assisting with accurate, timely entry of patient data, orders, and charges into the computer system.

Attendance to yearly mandatory education requirements is nonnegotiable and the RN will arrange and attend these sessions.

For Mississippi Cancer Institute Positions

Under general supervision of the MCI Director, the Oncology Registered Nurse uses the nursing process to safely perform oncology patient care and ensures continuity of care for patients receiving treatment. The RN provides consultation, education to patients, families, and staff, and works collaboratively with the radiation oncologist, medical oncologist, referring physicians, and other staff members associated with the MCI.

Work assignments are determined by adjustment of daily scheduled appointments and priority needs of patients and leadership. The RN is assigned up to 40 hours per week, with weekend work rotated as needed. The RN must function within the scope of approved policies, procedures, and regulations for the department and organization. Responsibilities include documentation of total care given, reviewing and maintaining patient charts, and assisting with accurate, timely entry of patient data, orders, and charges into the computer system.
