Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Machine Operator
Summary of Position
This position is responsible for industrial maintenance duties on equipment, machinery, building, and grounds. Duties include machine installation and construction, plumbing, carpentry, and basic electrical work.
Essential Functions- Troubleshoot malfunctioning machinery and equipment.
- Remove defective parts by dismantling machines or components using hoists, cranes, hand and power tools.
- Diagnose problems and perform necessary repairs to safely return equipment to acceptable operating condition.
- Perform planned maintenance activities such as cleaning and lubricating shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery or plant equipment, and install electrical equipment.
- Work on hydraulics, pneumatics, and basic electronic components, including replacing AC and DC motors.
- Operate and perform MIG and Arc welding as necessary.
- Set up and operate machine tools such as lathe and milling machine to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs, fixtures, and tools.
- Foster professionalism with all associates, internal and external customers.
- Work safely in accordance with regulations, standards, and procedures, and report unsafe conditions or incidents immediately.
- Participate in peer‑based teams and work with groups to initiate and implement programs such as Lean Manufacturing and 5‑S.
- Participate on project teams, star point teams and Kaizen events when needed.
- Attend and participate in all training opportunities required to develop in the role.
Minimum Requirements
- 2‑year technical degree in electrical field or equivalent (preferred).
- Previous experience in manufacturing preferred.
- Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Sound decision‑making skills.
- Good math, reading, and writing skills.
- Ability to maintain continuous mental, visual, and audio attention.
- Basic computer skills.
- Vision:
Near acuity and accommodation for reading information to perform job tasks. - Constant alertness to surroundings and product quality with attention to detail.
- Ability to operate material handling equipment and hoist, if needed.
- Ability to operate material handling equipment.
- Ability to work in hot and cold temperatures.
- Includes outdoor work.
- Ability to work at heights above ground level.
Ability to work well in a team environment.
AssessmentEmployee must successfully complete pre‑employment screening.
Organizational Relationships / Scope- Report directly to Facilities Specialist.
- Work closely with other departments to resolve issues with processes and equipment.
- High noise levels from operating machines and equipment.
- Physical hazards from operating machines and moving reels.
- May be exposed to nuisance fumes and dust.
- Require safety equipment including steel‑toe shoes, eye protection, hearing protection, high‑visibility clothing.
- Standing required for extended periods; walking, pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, turning, twisting, squatting, and lifting performed regularly.
- Requires high manual dexterity under restrictive conditions.
- Requires flexible hours and short notice for overtime.
