Position Overview

The Automation Technician I is an hourly position that supports the operation of an automated material handling system. This role focuses on ensuring that the ASRS and associated automated components are operating efficiently. The technician will diagnose and resolve errors, both physical and IT related, and use computer applications to maintain accurate Warehouse Management System (WMS), Warehouse Control System (WCS) and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) communication and inventory positioning.

Job Responsibilities
  • Independently monitor the WCS interface for potential faults, follow SOPs to clear machine faults in a timely manner, physically moving product (up to 100 lb) if required.
  • Utilize WMS and WCS to troubleshoot errors related to the automated warehouse.
  • Monitor WCS for inventory coming‑ling and initiate routines to consolidate pallets to required levels.
  • Track number of missions created by release of work to ensure workload completion and advise shift supervisor of potential conflicts.
  • Escalate errors and system outages as the key liaison between operations, automation provider, and USCS specialist.
  • Ensure data integrity in WMS and WCS for operational execution.
  • Perform preventive maintenance (PM) on automation equipment.
  • Participate in continuous improvement teams on warehouse automation.
  • Follow automated processes to support successful execution of warehousing processes.
  • Secondary job tasks include Maintenance Technician I and II tasks as assigned (paperwork, battery maintenance, housekeeping, troubleshooting, electrical work, welding, equipment maintenance, and other PM tasks).

  • Travel Amount: 0‑10 %
  • Job Type: Full‑Time, Non‑Exempt
  • Shifts:

    1st Shift – 4 am–2 30 pm; 2nd Shift – 11 am–7 30 pm
Qualifications Education
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Advanced technical training or certificates preferred
Experience
  • Computer systems experience (preferably WMS and WCS)
  • Familiar with PLC
  • Knowledge of conveyor maintenance and repair
  • Familiarity with ASRS cranes and repair
  • Proficient in electrical systems
  • Basic computer operation skills
  • Flexibility to work all shifts including weekends
  • Preferred understanding of distribution center processes
  • Clear communication skills
  • Ability to multitask while maintaining attention to detail and deadlines
  • Team‑oriented and collaborative mindset
  • Creative‑thinking and problem‑solving skills
Other Abilities
  • Bend and lift up to 50 lb regularly.
  • Lift up to 70 lb occasionally, with assistance.
  • Work in temperatures from +50 °F to –30 °F with moderate noise.
  • Lifting overhead when required.
  • Physical effort associated with computer use, occasional standing, walking, and lifting for everyday activities.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Effective communication, vision, and hearing essential for safety and productivity.
  • Operate scanners, tablets, radios, phones, computers, and other warehouse equipment as required.
  • Overtime availability is essential.
  • Operate a registered motor vehicle if part of daily tasks.
  • Engage in frequent personal interaction and communication.
  • Possess strong arithmetic and reading skills.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions and company policies.
  • Be a self‑starter, able to work independently and coordinate with others.
