Job Summary
The Safety Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining safety programs that ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards. This role supports a safe working environment across all distribution center operations, including shipping, receiving, material handling, and facility maintenance. The coordinator will conduct inspections, lead training sessions, and serve as the primary contact for safety-related concerns.
- Conduct daily inspections of warehouse operations, equipment, and storage areas to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for new hires and ongoing employee education.
- Maintain and update safety documentation, including inspection reports, incident logs, and training records.
- Investigate workplace incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Lead the site’s safety committee and facilitate communication between management and employees.
- Monitor compliance with OSHA, DOT, and FMCSR standards, especially regarding forklift operations, PPE usage, and hazardous materials handling.
- Coordinate emergency response plans and conduct regular safety drills.
- Escort auditors and regulatory agency representatives during inspections.
- Recommend improvements to working conditions and operational procedures to reduce risk.
- Track and manage safety-related certifications and credentials for all employees.
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a warehouse or distribution center safety role.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, DOT standards, and industrial safety practices.
- Excellent communication and training facilitation skills.
- Proficiency in safety management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Certification such as OSHA 30-Hour, CSP, or CHST is a plus.
- Detail-oriented and proactive in identifying hazards.
- Capable of building trust and accountability across teams.
- Comfortable working in both office and field environments.
- Able to manage multiple priorities and respond quickly to safety concerns.
