Maintenance Technician / Mechanic

General FunctionThe Maintenance Technician/Millwright is responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance on production machinery and equipment in an optical lens manufacturing environment, focusing on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
Major Duties and Responsibilities- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) inspections and repairs on machinery and equipment as per established schedules.
- Accurately document maintenance activities in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), such as SAP.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions, identifying root causes and implementing solutions.
- Communicate maintenance activities to team members and production staff to ensure smooth shift handovers.
- Collaborate with equipment manufacturers and vendors for technical support and parts procurement.
- Evaluate preventive maintenance (PM) activities and recommend improvements to optimize schedules and enhance equipment reliability.
- Analyze equipment failure data to identify trends and implement preventive measures.
- Install, remove, and relocate equipment, ensuring safe rigging and lifting practices.
- Adjust and calibrate machinery to meet precise specifications.
- Train other personnel on PM procedures, troubleshooting techniques, and equipment safety.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and adhere to all safety policies, including proper PPE usage.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and a positive work environment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Valid CCQ Journeyperson license (Licence B or Licence C for industrial mechanics).
- At least 4 years of experience as a licensed Maintenance Technician in an industrial/manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and ladder logic diagrams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and CMMS software (preferably SAP).
- Experience in an optical lens manufacturing environment.
- Experience in automation integration, PLC programming, and troubleshooting.
- Formal training in root cause analysis (RCA) or other problem‑solving methodologies.
- Strict adherence to safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures and machine safeguarding.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem‑solving skills with the ability to collaborate effectively and proactively address maintenance issues and improvements.
- Experience in high‑volume manufacturing and strong stress resilience.
- Bilingual in French and English.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lb.
- Ability to work in various physical positions, including standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying temperatures based on the manufacturing area.
- Production plant environment with exposure to industrial machinery and equipment.
- Shift work may be required, including afternoons, nights, and weekends.
