Position: Director of Manufacturing (Onsite)

Compensation

Target compensation: $161,500 - $190,000.

Job Summary

Directly accountable to lead the manufacturing organization to a level of performance identifiable with World Class organizations, utilizing lean production and continual improvement techniques. Direct all Purple manufacturing, maintenance, and engineering activities to ensure maximum effectiveness in producing quality products within specified time and budgetary guidelines. Works with Corporate Engineering, Innovations, Supply Chain, Quality, Brand, and Sales/Marketing to coordinate the production process for product changes and the introduction of new products.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for developing production, maintenance, engineering performance metrics.
  • Accountable for planning, implementation, and directing of all production, manufacturing, maintenance, and engineering activities.

  • Works closely with the finance department to align production build with cash flow planning and management.
  • Mentor and grow management talent.
  • Ensures managers provide leadership, coaching/training, respect, transparency, and a chance to grow for all production employees.
  • Holds production, maintenance, engineering personnel accountable for a strong work ethic, productivity, innovation, profitability, and safety.
  • Creates strategies to focus on the Employee Experience, reduce/eliminate waste/scrap, and ensure a product free of defects.
  • Provides leadership in continuous improvement activities to achieve Purple's goals of meeting quality, cost, and delivery objectives.
  • Develops and provides feedback on sustainability plan and recycling program for manufacturing components.
  • Takes action to resolve manufacturing, availability, and quality problems when they occur and prevent recurrence; liaises with superior to make decisions for operational activities and set strategic goals.
  • Plans and monitors the day-to-day running of business to ensure smooth progress.
  • Supervises staff from different departments within production and provides constructive feedback.
  • Evaluates regularly the efficiency of business procedures according to organizational objectives and applies improvements.
  • Manages procurement processes and coordinates material and resources allocation.
  • Reviews financial information and adjusts operational budgets to promote profitability.
Required Skills, Education, Experience
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of management experience required.
  • Manufacturing experience (3 years preferred) in rapidly growing companies.
  • Experience in injection molding and/or mattress manufacturing preferred.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office suite – comfortable in Excel and PPT.
  • Ability to manage and put ideas forward, work in a project team, and communicate across the organization (Corporate/Zone).
  • Sufficient technical knowledge to effectively interface with other departments and personnel.
Physical Requirements
  • Physical activities may occasionally include: remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time; adjusting or moving objects up to 50 pounds in all directions; ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like; moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments; communicating with others to exchange information; repetitive motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers;

    assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work assigned; operating machinery and/or power tools; operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment; environmental conditions may occasionally include: noisy open office environment, non-climate control production floor.
