Social Skills Assistant – Pod Support & Open Play

KEY ESSENTIALS TO BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT CORP (KEBM)

Compensation: $18 – $21/hr

Full‑time and Part‑time positions available

Service Setting:
Clinic‑based with open play and camp responsibilities

Credential:
High school diploma preferred; no prior certification required

Role Summary

As a Social Skills Assistant, you are the first face families meet and the energy behind every pod, open play session, and seasonal camp  support our clinical team during group sessions, run open play and camp programming, and ensure the environment is ready for success.

Responsibilities
  • Support pod facilitators during group sessions – prepare materials, manage transitions, deliver reinforcement, and help keep the group dynamic moving.
  • Run open play and camp programming (spring, winter, summer breaks, and other seasonal camps).
  • Build rapport with every client – insurance‑funded, private pay, open play drop‑in, or camp family.
  • Maintain the space – sensory room setup, materials prep, supply tracking, and cleanup.
  • Collect baseline observations and data under supervisor direction during open play and group sessions.
  • Learn the field on the job – shadow RBTs, Lead RBTs, and Program Supervisors; prepare for RBT certification if desired.
Qualifications and Traits
  • Natural ability to work with children – patience, playfulness, calmness during escalations.
  • Desire for a career in ABA – see the SSA role as a launching pad.
  • Commitment to equal quality of care for all clients.
  • Physical flexibility – ability to set up, clean, and transition quickly.
Bonus Points If You Have
  • Experience with children (camp counselor, preschool, tutoring, youth programs)
  • Psychology, education, or behavioral science coursework in progress
  • Bilingual (Spanish)
  • Direct experience with neurodiverse individuals

Physical Requirements
  • Frequent activities (4–8 hours): sitting, standing, walking, grasping, reaching, bending, twisting, kneeling, squatting.
  • Occasional activities (1–3 hours): typing, fine manipulation, stairs, lifting or carrying 1–50 lbs.
  • Crisis readiness: ability to respond to aggressive or self‑injurious behaviors with training and supervisory backup.
Reality Check – What You’ll Encounter
  • Aggression: hitting, kicking, biting, scratching, throwing objects – handled with training and crisis protocols.
  • Elopement: clients running or leaving the session space – supervised and mitigated by staff‑to‑client ratios.
  • Self‑injury: head‑hitting, scratching – protocols in place, trained through supervision.
  • Non‑compliance and task refusal – use reinforcement strategies and environmental adjustments.
  • Vocal stereotypy and scripting – understanding function is part of clinical picture.
  • Sensory‑seeking and sensory‑avoidant behaviors – environment adjustments required.
