This casual position is at the Immediate Care Center located in the McHenry clinic and requires a minimum of three shifts in a six‑week period (one weekend shift and two weekday shifts), with at least one shift per pay period. One winter and one summer holiday shift are required. All shifts are twelve hours from 7:45 am to 8:15 pm, and floating to other clinics may be required.
Candidates must hold a CMA or EMT qualification. The Immediate Care Technician supports physicians (MD) and advanced practice providers (APP) by facilitating patient flow, assisting with various patient‑care activities, and performing related administrative functions. The role ensures efficient patient flow, maintains clean and safe patient‑care areas, promotes patient satisfaction through friendly interaction, and safeguards patient confidentiality.
- Assure efficient patient flow through the site:
- Escort patients to exam rooms, identify patients using the two‑identifier system, and prepare them for examination.
- Obtain accurate vital signs per organization standards.
- Document the reason for the visit and update or confirm allergies, smoking history, and pharmacy information.
- Promptly inform the MD/APP of any significant change in vital signs or acute symptoms.
- Anticipate and set up equipment or supplies needed for the visit.
- Clean and prepare exam rooms for the next patient.
- Respond to needs to expedite visits, maintain patient flow, and prioritize tasks accordingly.
- Assist with referrals, transfers, and discharge processes.
- Assist MD/APP with medical and surgical procedures in accordance with established protocols such as:
- Electrocardiogram (ECG), venipuncture, immunizations, setting up procedure trays, specimen collection, and/or CLIA‑waived testing, wound care, splinting, as directed by MD/APP.
- Call‑in or electronically send prescriptions as directed by the MD/APP.
- Provide high‑quality care by:
- Preparing and stocking all exam rooms in the treatment area following established protocols for disinfecting and sterilizing equipment and instruments.
- Participating in environmental safety rounds.
- Maintaining vaccine and medication inventory.
- Ensuring medication cabinets are locked appropriately.
- Monitoring and maintaining equipment and instruments according to clinic guidelines.
- Assisting in ordering supplies and correctly disposing of all expired items.
- Adhering to office opening and closing procedures.
- Function as an integral part of the patient‑care team and promote patient satisfaction through professional, friendly interaction:
- Interact cooperatively with other practice staff.
- Accept and perform delegated responsibilities positively.
- Offer assistance to others.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings.
- Communicate appropriately and effectively with patients and the patient‑care team, both in the office and on the phone.
- Perform delegated procedures common to the specialty area safely, effectively, and efficiently (see specialty practice addendum).
- May perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Written proof of meeting eligibility requirements for writing one of the five eligible certification exams (AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA, NRCMA).
