Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital

Looking for a flexible acute-care Clinical Dietitian role with a predictable weekday schedule and the opportunity to practice at the top of your scope?

We're looking for an experienced Registered Dietitian to join our collaborative Clinical Nutrition team at McHenry Hospital. This casual position is designed around guaranteed Monday and Tuesday shifts each week
, with flexibility in start and end times.

This is an excellent opportunity for a dietitian who enjoys complex inpatient care, nutrition support, clinical autonomy, and being part of an experienced team while maintaining the flexibility of a two‑day‑per‑week schedule.

Schedule
  • Guaranteed Mondays and Tuesdays
  • 8.5‑hour shifts
  • Flexible start and end times
  • On‑site coverage required between 9:00 AM–2:30 PM
  • Weekend rotation approximately every 6 weeks
  • Opportunity to voluntarily pick up additional shifts
  • Occasional schedule flexibility may be accommodated
What You’ll Do
  • Manage an adult inpatient assignment of approximately 10 patients per day
, including a mix of initial assessments and follow‑ups
  • Cover a variety of adult inpatient populations based on department needs
  • Assess and manage patients with complex nutrition needs, including enteral and parenteral nutrition
  • Participate in interprofessional rounds
  • Identify and provide interventions for patients with malnutrition and other high‑risk nutrition needs
  • Collaborate closely with dietitians, physicians, pharmacists, nursing, and other members of the healthcare team
Practice at the Top of Your Scope

Our Clinical Dietitians have protocol‑based order‑writing privileges that support autonomous clinical practice, including:

  • Diet orders
  • Oral nutrition supplements
  • Enteral nutrition orders
  • Protocol‑driven monitoring of enteral and parenteral nutrition
  • Collaborative parenteral nutrition order management with pharmacists as part of the Nutrition Support team
Our Clinical Environment

McHenry offers exposure to a diverse adult acute‑care population, including:

  • Critical care
  • Neurologic care
  • Medical/telemetry
  • Cardiac care
  • Malnutrition
  • Oncology
  • Renal disease
  • Complex nutrition‑support patients

Your assignment will typically be to a specific inpatient floor for the day, although the floor may rotate based on patient and team needs.

Our Clinical Dietitians are integrated directly into the patient‑care units they support, with dedicated RD workstations located on the inpatient floors. This unit‑based model complements participation in interprofessional rounds and close collaboration with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other members of the care team.

Why Mondays & Tuesdays?

Monday and Tuesday are all‑hands‑on‑deck days for our Clinical Nutrition team. You’ll work alongside the broader team to prioritize patients, manage new assessments and follow‑ups, and ensure our highest‑risk patients receive timely nutrition care.

You won’t be practicing in isolation.
Teamwork and shared support are central to how we manage high‑volume days.
