Job Summary
Registered Nurse (RN) required full‑time to perform the duties of the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) at a 150‑plus bed facility serving residents requiring sub‑acute care, hospice, dementia care, long‑term care, and complex comorbidities. The ADON will oversee programs such as wound care, weight management, infection control, psychotropic management, fall prevention, and risk management, with oversight tailored to your strengths or interests.
As part of the Nursing Management team—including the Director of Nursing, Wound Care Nurse, Restorative Nurse, and MDS Coordinators—you will ensure policies are followed, documentation is complete, care is coordinated with physicians and other providers, and residents achieve high satisfaction with nursing care.
Shift & On‑CallThe position is Monday‑Friday day shift with shared on‑call responsibilities. Weekend shifts may occur approximately every other weekend, and on‑call duties may include filling a spot on the nursing unit.
Essential Functions- Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the Nursing Department.
- Ensure nursing procedures and protocols comply with facilities policies and regulations.
- Directly supervise and instruct nursing staff to promote job knowledge.
- Identify problems and develop solutions in collaboration with administration.
- Develop and implement a nursing/rehabilitation/restorative philosophy promoting quality care.
- Ensure adequate staffing on all shifts.
- Audit charts and electronic health records for daily documentation and accuracy.
- Audit laboratory and imaging reports and ensure they are filed appropriately.
- Audit transfers, discharge information, and chart deficiencies.
- Assist in developing care plans for residents and participate in resident care plan conferences.
- Attend and participate in resident and family council meetings.
- Recruit, interview, and select nursing staff with administrator approval.
- Schedule department work hours, personnel, and assignments.
- Provide counseling, discipline, and performance evaluations as needed.
- Make physical rounds daily and coordinate with physicians as necessary.
- Submit workers’ compensation forms within 24 hours of occurrence.
- Plan, conduct, and participate in in‑service education programs.
- Assist in orientation and continuing education programs.
- Place orders for equipment and supplies following budgetary guidelines.
- Maintain budgetary restraints and approve purchase orders.
- Maintain a reference library of nursing materials.
- Assist in admissions and room assignments.
- Review nurses’ notes/EHR for informativeness and accuracy.
- Monitor medication passes and treatment schedules.
- Ensure nursing personnel licenses are valid and current.
- Report changes in resident condition to families and physicians.
- Attend departmental and quality assurance meetings as directed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Current, unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Illinois.
- Minimum one year nursing service administration experience.
- Current CPR certification or certification within two weeks of employment.
- Knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures.
- Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with customers, families, and personnel.
- Leadership and supervisory ability; willingness to work harmoniously.
- Personable, enthusiastic, and resourceful.
Must pass a drug test, healthcare worker registry background check, be up‑to‑date on COVID‑19 vaccinations or have a valid exemption, and be able to lift, push or pull 25 pounds for 25 feet. Personnel may spend extended periods on their feet.
