Role Description

The Vehicle Upfitting Specialist is a full-time, on-site role located in Lake in the Hills, IL, responsible for installing, modifying, and configuring aftermarket equipment on a wide range of vehicles. Day-to-day tasks include mounting and wiring lights, sirens, communication equipment, racks, tool storage, and other specialty components according to build sheets and safety standards. The specialist will read and interpret technical diagrams, perform basic mechanical and electrical work, test completed installations, and troubleshoot any issues.

The role involves collaborating with team members, maintaining a clean and organized workspace, documenting work performed, and ensuring vehicles are delivered on schedule and in compliance with company quality expectations.

Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience with basic automotive mechanical work, including installing brackets, panels, and hardware;
  • Practical electrical skills such as wiring, crimping, routing cables, and safely working with 12V systems.
  • Ability to read and follow build sheets, technical diagrams, and equipment installation manuals.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and commitment to safety and quality standards.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a shop environment.
  • Capability to lift and handle tools and components, and to stand or move for extended periods as part of daily tasks.
  • Previous experience in vehicle upfitting, automotive service, or related trade fields is beneficial.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in automotive or electrical fields is an advantage.
