Diesel Mechanic / Maintenance Technician
This role combines fleet maintenance and industrial plant maintenance in a fast-paced production environment. You will diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles as well as facility machinery, ensuring safe, reliable operation and minimal downtime. The position also involves welding and fabrication work, along with routine preventative maintenance and accurate documentation of all service activities.
Responsibilities- Diagnose, repair, and service diesel and gasoline engines on trucks, forklifts, and yard vehicles.
- Inspect, maintain, and repair brake systems, hydraulic setups, and vehicle electrical systems on heavy equipment.
- Troubleshoot and maintain industrial plant equipment, including assembly systems, conveyors, pumps, pneumatic lines, and automated piping and coating systems.
- Identify root causes of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues to reduce and prevent manufacturing downtime.
- Perform welding and fabrication tasks to complete structural repairs, component modifications, and industrial cutting work.
- Use hand and power tools to carry out mechanical repairs and fabrication safely and efficiently.
- Conduct preventative maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and routine inspections on vehicles and plant equipment.
- Requisition parts and materials needed for repairs and maintenance activities in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, repair records, and service documentation for fleet and facility equipment.
- Read, interpret, and follow industrial schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical repair manuals to plan and complete repairs.
- Collaborate with production and operations personnel to schedule maintenance and minimize impact on manufacturing output.
- Adhere to safety procedures and best practices while working on heavy equipment and industrial machinery.
- Approximately 3 years of proven experience diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining complex diesel and gasoline vehicles or heavy industrial equipment.
- Hands-on experience with heavy equipment such as trucks, forklifts, and yard vehicles.
- Advanced knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines, including engine diagnostics and repair.
- Strong understanding of vehicle and equipment electrical systems and the ability to troubleshoot electrical faults.
- Proficiency with complex hydraulic systems, including diagnosis, repair, and maintenance.
- Experience inspecting, maintaining, and repairing brake systems, including air brake mechanisms.
- Proficiency in maintaining and repairing plant equipment such as conveyors, pneumatic lines, pumps, and automated piping and coating systems.
- Practical welding and fabrication experience using various techniques for structural repairs and component modifications.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply information from industrial schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical repair manuals.
- Demonstrated mechanical troubleshooting skills across diesel, mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Experience performing preventative maintenance on engines and industrial equipment, including oil and filter changes.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in industrial, steel fabrication, pipe mill, or millwright environments.
- Comfort working in a production-driven, fast-paced industrial setting.
- Strong attention to detail when documenting maintenance activities and repair histories.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively to reduce equipment downtime.
- Solid understanding of preventive maintenance practices for both fleet and plant machinery.
- Capability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with operations and production teams.

Work EnvironmentYou work in a heavy industrial manufacturing setting that blends fleet maintenance with automated coating and piping systems. The environment is fast-paced and production-driven, with frequent interaction with trucks, forklifts, yard vehicles, conveyors, pumps, pneumatic lines, and automated industrial machinery. You regularly use hand and power tools, welding equipment, and diagnostic instruments to service both mobile equipment and fixed plant systems.
Work takes place on the shop floor and in the yard around active operations, requiring consistent attention to safety procedures, appropriate use of personal protective equipment, and readiness to move between vehicle bays and production areas as maintenance needs arise.
This is a Permanent position based out of McKeesport, PA.
