Blackard Companies is a real estate development firm founded in 1981 and headquartered in Adriatica Village, McKinney, Texas. Over four decades, Blackard has delivered more than 15,000 homesites across 30+ communities, 2.6 million square feet of commercial space, and 10,000+ multifamily units. Our current work centers on village-style, mixed-use developments in Texas, supported by a group of related holding and portfolio companies, with an active pipeline of new projects.
Aboutthe Role
We are hiring an Accountant at our corporate office to run accounting across a multi-entity structure of development projects, holding companies, and portfolio companies. The core of the role is transactional accounting, payroll, and processing the monthly close, with hands-on training on documented processes that are already running. The scope is also expected to expand to budgeting, tax compliance, insurance tracking, project cost accounting, and financial modeling for prospective transactions.
The position manages an outsourced administrative accountant and reports to management. The role is intended to expand beyond basic accounting core functions to include real estate deal analysis over time.
- Handle day-to-day accounting across entities: accounts payable, accounts receivable, and banking in Quick Books
- Run payroll and related tax filings
- Support the monthly close: account reconciliations, intercompany billing, and allocations across entities
- Help prepare financial reporting for ownership and leadership
- Work the compliance calendar with our external tax preparer: income, franchise, and property tax
- Track the insurance program across entities and support renewals
- Maintain project cost accounting for active developments and support pre-development draws
- Contribute to budgeting, financial modeling, and forecasting for active and prospective deals
- Help improve how the function runs, including AI-assisted workflows
- Exposure to the full accounting cycle of a real estate development firm: close, reporting, tax, insurance, treasury, and project accounting
- Finance work alongside the accounting: deal modeling and forecasting, not ledger work only
- Direct access to executive leadership and visibility into how development decisions get made
- Structured onboarding: training from the person who built the current processes
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- 1 to 3 years of experience
- Strong Excel and Quickbooks (or similar accounting software) skills
- Accuracy, attention to detail, and follow-through with transactional work
- Strong organizational skill, able to work independently in a small team, and manage your own priorities
- Interest and passion for real estate and development
- CPA candidacy or plans to pursue it
- Exposure to real estate, construction, or property management
- Interest and experience in utilizing AI tools and process automation
$65,000 to $85,000, commensurate with experience.
