As a key member of the Financial Services team, the Senior Accounting Technician is to perform administrative and technical duties relating to governmental accounting, auditing, and financial reporting. The positions are assigned in the areas of Accounts Payable, Investments & Treasury, or Payroll. Tasks include transaction processing, data entry, account research, transaction auditing, and customer service.

Essential duties and responsibilities include providing administrative support to Financial Service divisions, processing data entry transactions, preparing monthly journals and reconciling general ledger accounts, writing queries and reports for financial analysis, relieving management staff of routine administrative tasks, assisting departments with general ledger inquiries and accounting questions, assisting in the preparation and compilation of audit work papers and fiscal year end activities, participating in special projects, and complying with City policies and procedures.
If assigned to Treasury, duties include recording cash, checks and electronic deposits, processing departmental invoices and travel requests, researching returned checks, maintaining petty cash drawer, assisting with bank reconciliation processes, handling unclaimed property, and facilitating the connection and disconnection of City utility services.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED supplemented by college level course work in accounting/business and three (3) years of previous experience and/or training that include accounting/bookkeeping. Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen. Governmental experience preferred in finance/accounting. Conditions of employment include passing a drug screen and background check, and having a Class C Texas Driver's License.
Physical demands involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station. Some tasks require visual and sound perception and discrimination and oral communications ability. Work environment involves limited exposure to environmental conditions.
