Role Overview
Unclaimed Property Compliance Manager responsible for leading all facets of the life and annuity unclaimed property team within the Legal Department, ensuring compliance with state statutes governing the Unclaimed Property Act, including Social Security Administration Death Master File matching, policyholder outreach, continuous monitoring of matching policies, and adherence to escheat regulations.
What You Will Do- Coordinate with internal departments including Regulatory, Data & Analytics, Internal Audit, Claims, Accounting, and Actuary, as well as external vendors and legal counsel.
- Develop and maintain proficiency with company databases across multiple subsidiaries, perform SQL policy searches within the Unclaimed Property Database, including state‑mandated Lost Policy Searches.
- Assess and analyze match files returned from third‑party vendor.
- Continuously monitor policies to determine whether there has been a change in the policy status.
- Perform mandatory outreach on policy matches, monitor to determine if new outreach addresses should be obtained.
- Coordinate with Unclaimed Property Accounting to ensure properties are escheated per statutory requirements.
- Work with Audit Firms to gather and provide required policy information for specified audit period.
- Monitor, track and adhere to all state‑mandated search and reporting deadlines.
- Manage full‑time employees and contractors.
- Collaborate with Data & Analytics Department to develop automated processes and reduce manual processes.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Management experience.
- Prior work experience in unclaimed property or claim‑handling at a life insurance company.
- Working knowledge of Unclaimed Property statutes and regulatory requirements, with the ability to read, interpret, and monitor regulatory changes and identify potential issues.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Access, Excel, SharePoint) and internet research; experience working with complex and large data sets; knowledge of SQL preferred; familiarity with Accurint and Workday a plus.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills via phone, chat, and email, with the ability to maintain discretion, confidentiality, and exercise sound judgment.
- Effective time management skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
