Job Description

The Raytheon Intelligence & Space (RIS) Advanced Manufacturing, Modernization, and Technology (AMMT) team is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated team member to take on the role of Sr. Automation Systems Engineer II in our Factory in McKinney, TX. This person will be responsible for executing automation projects within the McKinney factory. The Automation Systems Engineer will work for the McKinney Automation Systems Engineering Manager, and will collaborate with local factory leadership, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, operations, supply chain, and the front end of the business automation lead to execute automation projects throughout the McKinney factory.

The Automation Systems Engineer will deploy advanced Smart Factory/Industry 4.0 technologies, as well as identify opportunities for process improvements via lean techniques.

The position will be networked across RIS factories, which includes locations in El Segundo (CA), McKinney (TX), Forest (MS), Santa Barbara County (CA), and Largo (FL), in addition to operations and automation engineers from other Raytheon Technologies business units. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of technology deployment and/or sustainment.

Required Skills
  • 5+ years of professional experience as it relates to engineering, manufacturing, operations and/or automation, with at least 3 years being directly related to automation and/or controls.
  • Experience in systems design, development, deployment, validation and/or sustainment.
  • Experience with automation systems (torque controllers, robots, vision systems, PLCs)
  • Experience with process integration and electromechanical systems
  • Experience with Distributed Control Systems
  • Strong understanding of programming environments
  • Experience in mechanical and/or electrical design, systems engineering, computer vision, and/or artificial intelligence.
  • Experience with CAD (Solidworks, Pro E, AutoCAD electrical, etc.)
  • Ability to prioritize during haze of confusion and/or conflicting goals
  • Time & task management skills
  • Ability to demonstrate strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Must be a US Citizen as the position will require the ability to access US only Data Systems
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance
  • U.S. Citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications Desired Skills
  • Experience with industrial sensors and equipment (LVDT and pressure transducers, dispense systems, temperature controllers, DC torque controllers, current and power meters, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Electrical Standards (NFPA
    79, National Electric code, UL508A).
  • Knowledge of Safety standards (ANSI/RIA
    15.06, OSHA).
  • Experience programming Cartesian, SCARA and Articulated robots (Fanuc, UR or others)
  • Experience with Vision systems (Cognex, Keyence, Fanuc)
  • Experience with PLCs, MTConnect, and/or Transactional Automation (use of API, XML)
  • Experience creating technical specifications
  • Experience transitioning products and processes from prototype to production
  • Experience debugging and optimizing automated processes to maximize cycle time, improve availability and yield
  • Understanding of Lean principles and terminology and/or six sigma black belt or equivalent
  • Familiarity with Industry 4.0 / Smart Factory concepts
  • Understanding of SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems), ISA (International Society of Automation) 95 architectures.
  • Experience with cyber and/or cyber-physical systems security protocols
  • Demonstrated ability to develop technical risk mitigation plans to prevent overruns to budget and schedule
  • Proactively identifies and manages changes in project scope, identifies potential problems, and devises contingency plans
  • Strong interpersonal communication (verbal, written and presentation) skills with the ability to interact positively and collaboratively with others at all levels of the organization
