Summary of Position

Under general direction, this position provides comprehensive administration of water and wastewater operations and maintenance functions for the City. The employee is expected to have thorough knowledge of water distribution, wastewater collections, pump and lift station operations, water quality, cross‑connection and back‑flow control, and to participate in all facets of work under charge. The position is responsible for managing the water and wastewater operations of all associated personnel and the financial responsibilities inherent in the work, equipment, materials, and supplies utilized by the division.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage the daily operations of the Division, including personnel, scheduling, and monitoring regulatory requirements.
  • Administer daily water and wastewater operations and ensure adherence to City and regulatory practices.
  • Oversee lift stations and pump station operations, including storage tanks and chemical addition.
  • Specify and review planning for system improvements and future needs related to water supply and distribution.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports and ensure reporting deadlines are met.
  • Respond to customer concerns and inquiries regarding water operations.
  • Maintain equipment, materials, and supplies inventory, including ordering and specifications.
  • Consult with local, state, and federal agencies on regulations and requirements.
  • Monitor and record water quality for reporting purposes.
  • Interpret updates, maintain utility plans, and summarize work in progress.
  • Respond to emergencies and assist personnel as needed.
  • Provide proper instruction and training for equipment use, preventive maintenance, and safety protocols.
  • Prepare annual budget requests, including projections for equipment replacement and capital improvement projects.
  • Provide timely, accurate performance evaluations for supervised employees.
  • Comply with all written City policies and procedures.
  • Travel to various sites, including lift stations, pump stations, water storage tanks, training, and meetings.

  • Apply basic algebraic principles, formulas, and geometric calculations.
