Position SummaryThe Mechanical Analysis and Test (MA&T) Department is seeking a Section Leader for the Advanced Sensors Thermal Analysis Section. The Section Leader will oversee staffing, development, hiring, succession planning, performance appraisals, compensation planning, and promotions. The role requires maintaining positive customer relationships, forecasting labor needs, and deploying qualified staff to support programs. The Section Leader will provide technical leadership, review thermal analysis BOEs for proposals, and mentor staff as an expert technical advisor.
Key Responsibilities- Lead a group of thermal engineers, ensuring each employee has appropriate work assignments and growth opportunities.
- Perform performance development and appraisal, salary and manpower planning, career coaching, weekly time‑card approval, host section meetings, and enforce company policies.
- Provide technical oversight, monitor program execution, and offer subject‑matter expertise in direct support of program efforts and proposal activities.
- Assist with proposal preparation, including estimating scope of new engineering projects and providing accurate estimates.
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. Master’s equals 2 years;
Ph.D. equals 5 years. - Experience in thermal analysis using ANSYS, STAR‑CCM+, FloTHERM, PATRAN, Thermal Desktop/SINDA, or equivalent.
- Strong foundation in mechanical principles to solve thermal analysis problems both inside and outside finite element tools.
- Eligibility to obtain a U.S. government issued security clearance; U.S. citizenship required as only citizens can secure a clearance.
- Ability to work on‑site in a closed and secured environment.
- Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.
- 10+ years of professional experience in thermal analysis of complex systems across multiple engineering disciplines.
- Background as a technical leader or engineering team leader.
- Proven track record in facilitating career growth and knowledge transfer.
- Experience in electronics cooling and aerodynamic heating analyses.
- Experience leading thermal testing: planning, organization, execution, data reduction, and correlation.
- Knowledge of Earned Value Management System.
- Experience supporting EACs, BOEs, and proposals.
- Ability to present to external customers and travel to government and other facilities as needed.
