Raytheon’s System Safety / Human System Integration (HSI) Department ensures product safety by identifying hazards, assessing risks, and implementing solutions to protect people, hardware, and the environment. Leveraging rigorous engineering principles, the team integrates safety into every phase of the system lifecycle, enhancing reliability and safeguarding our warfighters. The Principal System Safety Engineer will oversee system safety for the Niagara Falls program and support additional advanced product lines involving complex aerospace and defense technologies.
This position requires work in classified environments, which may include closed‑door settings and specialized security protocols.

- System Safety Program Development and Implementation
- Develop and implement MIL‑STD‑882E–compliant system safety programs, including management, analysis, evaluation, and verification tasks.
- Interpret system requirements, customer specifications, and military standards to recommend compliance strategies to program leadership.
- Serve as the Lead System Safety Engineer for the Niagara Falls program, ensuring compliance with all safety requirements and delivering innovative safety solutions.
- Provide technical guidance and expertise to ensure adherence to safety engineering standards, practices, and contractual requirements.
- Project and Program Management Integration
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers in a closed‑door, classified program environment to achieve program safety objectives.
- Create and manage safety strategies, integrate tasks into the Program Integrated Master Schedule (IMS), and ensure compliance with contract and funding requirements.
- Oversee safety budgets and execution, including Earned Value Management (EVM) and coordination with CAMs, IPTLs, and product owners.
- Provide mentorship to early‑career safety engineers.
- Risk Management and Stakeholder Collaboration
- Proactively engage in design change boards (e.g., engineering review boards, configuration control boards) to assess impacts on safety programs.
- Coordinate and lead System Safety Working Groups with internal and external stakeholders, including government customers.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams to integrate safety requirements, identify and mitigate risks, ensure hazard elimination, and implement effective controls.
