Salary Information

Typical Hiring Range: $69,404.38 - $83,574.92 (depends on years of service)

Position Summary

Under general supervision, this position performs a wide variety of law enforcement activities. Duties include collecting and dispensing information, arbitrating disputes, apprehending persons with warrants, transporting prisoners, parking enforcement, and court security. The role involves personal danger and requires independent judgment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Comply with all City policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to assigned work schedule and attendance policies.
  • Drive to assigned locations when required.
  • Provide assistance and service to the public.
  • Exercise independent judgment in determining reasonable suspicion, probable cause, and use of force.
  • Perform law enforcement functions as needed: prevent and discover crime, maintain high visibility, issue citations, pursue and apprehend suspects, enforce vehicle laws, serve arrest warrants, provide traffic and crowd control, and transport arrestees.
  • Enforce state and local traffic laws.
  • Issue municipal citations for misdemeanor offenses.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills in court.
  • Conduct reporting and record‑keeping, e.g., arrest reports, warrant research.
  • Attend required training to keep up with changes in laws and enforcement methods.
  • Prepare and process reports, citations, affidavits, and warrants.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, peers, civilians, and the public.
  • Pursue fleeing suspects and perform rescue operations when necessary.
  • Conduct searches of people, vehicles, buildings, and outdoor areas.
  • Endure verbal and mental abuse encountered while on duty.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with other City department personnel.
  • Perform rescue functions at emergencies and disasters, including directing traffic, administering aid, and assisting the Fire Department.
  • Prepare and issue warrant notifications by mail, in person, and by phone.
  • Clear warrants from court and the regional computer system.
  • Serve warrants and arrest citizens who fail to comply.
  • Act as bailiff in court, coordinating safety and security.
  • Transport prisoners from other jurisdictions and conduct weekend transports on a rotating schedule.
  • Submit files to judges and prosecutors for review.
  • Contact other agencies regarding arrested subjects.
  • Research information for the city prosecutor.
  • Perform compliance checks of vehicle registrations and related equipment.
  • Act as liaison between the court and outside law enforcement agencies.
  • Verify prisoner status for potential release and authorize release.
  • Process time‑served requests from jail.
  • Serve court summons and subpoenas and file charges as requested.
  • Comply with TLETS reporting requirements and maintain system integrity.
  • Maintain records for TCOLE requirements.
  • Use physical strength to restrain individuals and to search premises.
  • Qualify using an agency‑issued firearm; load, unload, aim, and fire as required.
  • Pick up documents and tickets daily from the Police Department.
  • Transport deposits from court to Finance.
  • Prepare courtroom for sessions.
  • Patrol downtown areas for parking and safety violations.
  • Issue parking citations and educate the public on regulations.
  • Collect data and images for parking violations and testifying in Municipal Court.
