JJAEP Officer

Collin County is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program (JJAEP) Officer in the Juvenile Services Department. The JJAEP officer will assist in the Collin County JJAEP’s commitment to provide students with a structured and safe environment in which they can make academic improvements while emphasizing appropriate positive behavioral growth to succeed at their home campus and in society.

In addition, the JJAEP officer will act to support the overall goal of the Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program (JJAEP) to reduce delinquency, increase offender accountability and rehabilitate offenders through a comprehensive, coordinated community-based juvenile probation system.

The JJAEP Officer job duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assisting with student searches on a daily basis.
• Confiscating and storing securely any contraband or prohibited items.
• Seizing any illegal items or substances found that may result in charges being filed.
• Assisting with JJAEP Juveniles and JJAEP Probation Officers when a disruption, behavior or action rises to the level of a criminal offense.
• Taking action, as needed, when JJAEP students violate terms and conditions of probation.
• Initiating activities where needed to ensure safe academic environment
• Monitoring cameras and radio and responding, as needed.
• Ensuring all school entrances and exits are locked and secure.
• Monitoring immediate parking and entrance areas.
• Responding to emails, phone calls, and correspondences timely.
• Communicating with JJAEP Juveniles, their parents, and probation officers, as needed.
• Conducting fire and lockdown drills, as required annually.
• Updating contact information as part of the emergency plan.

Six months to one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency is required. Minimum of one year of experience in law enforcement. Valid Texas Operator’s Driver’s License, Firearm Certification, and TCOLE Certified Peace Officer License are required.
