The Collin County District Attorney's Office is hiring and we need exceptional candidates for our Misdemeanor Prosecutor role. This entry-level criminal prosecution position provides essential litigation experience and provides a path to higher level prosecution whether you are just starting out, or you have been practicing law for a while and want to move in a different direction.

ABOUT THE JOB

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Misdemeanor Trial Division, Misdemeanor Prosecutors gain exposure to a variety of responsibilities including:

  • Processing pleas and plea negotiations
  • Handling routine pretrial court appearances
  • Managing court calendar
  • Preparing for and conducting writ hearings
  • Filing and responding to oral and written court motions
  • Preparing for and conducting trial procedures by presenting and defending motions to suppress and respond to discovery requests
  • Conducting various pretrial hearings
  • Interviewing witnesses
  • Organizing case file for trial
  • Conducting scene investigations
  • Preparing trial exhibits
  • Reviewing evidence
  • Conducting voir dire examinations
  • Trying misdemeanor cases to verdict in jury trials and trials before the court
  • Other tasks ancillary to the above mentioned work

WHO WE NEED:

All candidates must have:

  • Acquired a Doctorate of Jurisprudence and be licensed by the State of Texas to practice law OR be a recent Doctorate of Jurisprudence graduate scheduled to take the Bar examination within 6 months of hire.
  • A valid Texas’s Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
