SUMMARY

OF POSITION

Employees in this classification perform field inspection work. The position is responsible for issuing utility permits, conducting inspections of construction work ensuring compliance with construction guidelines, conducting re‑inspections and monitoring repair work, and providing information to the public.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides direction, guidance, and assistance to contracted service providers: monitors status of work, inspects completed work, and troubleshoots problem situations.
  • Conducts walk‑through inspections of new subdivisions for problems involving storm drains, street pavement, tree clearance, sign locations, and erosion problems; conducts annual re‑inspections to verify existence of no new problems before expiration of warranty.
  • Coordinates and monitors repair/replacement work when required: determines amount of pavement, sidewalk, or landscaping that should be replaced by contractor to correct problems; verifies that any necessary repair/replacement of damaged surfaces/areas is conducted by contractors according to City specifications in a timely manner and without expense to the City.
  • Provides information to residents, other City departments, or other individuals regarding construction zones, permits, or other information: responds to questions/complaints, researches problems, and initiates problem resolution.
  • Reviews construction plans and written job instructions.
  • Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, permits, inspection records, work orders, or other documents.
  • Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, invoices, permit applications, construction plans, architectural drawings, maps, ordinances, policies, procedures, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
