The Senior Brand & Content Lead within Open Stax at Rice University owns brand strategy, editorial voice, and external content and communications across the Open Stax K-12 and Higher Education markets. Open Stax is a nonprofit educational initiativeof Rice University that publishes free, peer-reviewed, openlylicensed textbooks and builds interactive teaching and learning tools used by students and educators across high school and higher education.
Working under the direction of Open Stax marketingleadership, the Senior Brand & Content Lead develops and implements complex, multi-audience communications and marketing strategies; sets, governs, and enforces the Open Stax brand andstyle guide; leads public relations, media relations, and external communications; supports executive messaging; owns the editorialvoice, content calendar, and the organization’s owned contentchannels, including the blog, newsletters, podcast, and social media; and serves as a core member of the cross-functional product marketing group, contributing to positioning, messaging, andsales-facing collateral.
This is an individual-contributor rolethat drives cross-functional collaboration across marketing,product, design, sales, and leadership and provides expert guidance and mentorship to colleagues without formal supervisory authority.

The ideal candidate is an accomplished brand and contentprofessional who can maintain a consistent voice across very different audiences, including high school teachers, collegefaculty, students, supporters, and the press, without diminishingwhat makes each audience distinct. You have owned a brand or style guide and enforced it with care and good judgment, and you are comfortable being the final authority on brand questions whilebringing colleagues along rather than simply overruling them.
Youwrite well and edit even better. You can manage an editorialcalendar across multiple channels and markets simultaneously, andyou know how to work with growth, events, design, product, andsales colleagues who do not report to you. You are at ease handlinga media inquiry, shaping an executive message, and reviewing asales one-pager in the same week. Most of all, you are motivated bya mission that puts free, high-quality learning materials into thehands of students who need them.
Requirements
This is a desk-based, computer-intensive role performed in a remote home-office environment. Reliable high-speed internet access and asuitable, distraction-minimized workspace are required. Occasional travel is required for team meetings, conferences, partner andpress events, and organizational convenings.
