Position: Registered Nurse (Public Health)

Job Description

Collin County is seeking exceptional candidates to fill the position of a Nurse (RN). A Nurse (RN) will be responsible for, but not limited to, rotating among the Immunizations Clinic, Employee Health Clinic, and Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Clinic. This role involves both clinical and administrative responsibilities, patient education, and support to other healthcare providers. Work is performed under the direction of the Nurse Manager.

Primary

Functions

If assigned to the Immunizations Clinic, the Nurse administers vaccines to infants, children, and adults; reviews, records, and evaluates immunization records; educates the public about vaccines; and maintains medical supplies and electronic immunization records.

If assigned to the Employee Health Clinic, the Nurse assists physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants with pre‑employment assessments and primary care appointments for County employees and their insured dependents. Patient interactions include obtaining weight, height, pulse, and blood pressure; recording medical history; performing point‑of‑care laboratory tests; and administering medications. The Nurse also performs lab work and prepares samples for laboratory testing.

If assigned to the STD Clinic, the Nurse assists providers in testing and treating STDs, including chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and trichomoniasis, and provides referrals for HIV testing and treatment. Care and treatment are provided in the clinical setting. Administrative support responsibilities include notifying patients of laboratory results, scheduling follow‑up or referral appointments, triaging emergencies, and answering pharmacy questions related to STD medications.

Patient interactions are similar to those in the Employee Health Clinic, and lab work is performed with sample preparation for the laboratory.

The Nurse performs essential functions within their scope of practice and license, follows Department of State Health Services protocols, and may be assigned other duties during disasters or emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must possess the knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes.
  • Must possess and maintain an unencumbered Registered Nurse License in Texas.
  • Must have a minimum of two years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Operator’s Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
  • CPR certification is preferred, or must be obtained within 60 days of employment. Strong computer skills are required.

This is a grant‑funded position that is renewed annually. Employment is contingent upon the availability of grant funds and may be terminated if funding is discontinued or exhausted.
