Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Know and actively demonstrate daily the Company Mission Statement and Core Values.
  • Maintain uniform standard as detailed in the Employee Manual for all worked hours.
  • Greet guests with a smiling face and helpful demeanor, use Guest Services script; offer 5% discount, collect Specs Key, address guests by name, offer additional items, suggest charity of the month, thank guests.
  • Operate cash register or electronic scanner and look up products to access UPC codes or prices.
  • Ensure proper pricing by scanning the correct barcode.
  • Properly use and maintain computers, registers, and scanner equipment.
  • Suggestively sell items to guests at the register, offer add‑on items, and charity of the month.
  • Monitor merchandise brought to the register by stockers to ensure accurate charges.
  • Redeem coupons and weigh produce items as required.
  • Ask the guest to read and answer the pin pad question before starting the transaction; never answer the pin pad questions for the guest.
  • Check acceptable identification and use 36 sign‑in to ensure a legal sale; maintain professionalism when checking IDs.
  • Receive cash, checks, debit cards, credit cards, or gift cards.
  • Issue receipts and any change due; accurately count change back to the guest.
  • Bag or box merchandise; use bags only when requested, use boxes otherwise.
  • Assist with carry‑outs when needed and feasible.
  • Compute and record totals of all transactions on daily record sheet.
  • Call the code for a cash drop as soon as the limit has been reached to maintain till balance.
  • Keep work area clean and neat; do not overstock counter with merchandise.
  • Count down drawer at end of shift and prepare final drop.
  • Answer questions and provide information to guests.
  • Resolve guest complaints with courtesy and respect.
  • Avoid conversations with coworkers when guests are present.
  • Avoid use of personal cell phone while on the sales floor.
  • Stock shelves and check price tags as needed.
  • Monitor checkout station, ensuring all needed tools such as register paper and paper bags are in stock.
  • Prepare assigned areas for inventory and assist in the inventory process if needed.
  • Carry out directives of management efficiently.
  • Fulfill responsibilities with care and attention to detail.
  • Practice teamwork and cooperation with others.
  • Possess time management skills and prioritize tasks.
  • Manage stress in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Stand for most of the shift, bend and walk occasionally; lift and move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds or more occasionally; push or pull 50‑100 pounds or more occasionally; use proper lifting techniques and tools.
  • Communicate with and understand team members and guests.
  • Work in accordance with all safety regulations of Specs Family Partners and OSHA.
  • Other projects and tasks assigned by management.
  • May have to clean the restroom.
  • Attendance and timeliness are required.
Education or Experience

Preferred: cashiering experience; willing to learn, training provided. Desired: high school diploma or GED.

Language Skills

Read, understand, and write simple instructions or memos; communicate verbally with coworkers and guests. Bilingual skills are a plus.

Mathematical Skills

Add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers and decimals; calculate discounts and percentages.

Demeanor and Personal Skills

Smiley, friendly, helpful. Responsible, reliable, committed to providing extraordinary service. Self‑starter with strong work ethic; complete assignments timely.

Hours

Full‑time: 35 hours per week; available for any shift on Friday or Saturday; must be available 80% or more of all shifts. Part‑time: up to 25 hours per week.

Reasoning Ability

Apply common sense to carry out written, oral, or diagram instructions.

Certificates, Licenses

Maintain a valid TABC Beverage Sellers Permit; in some locations a valid Food Handlers Permit may be required.

Physical Demands

Stand, walk, and bend; use arms, hands, and fingers to handle and lift; climb and balance. Lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds or more occasionally. Push or pull 50‑100 pounds or more occasionally. Close vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment and Environmental Conditions

Positive environment; moderate noise level; may be exposed to outdoor weather while delivering service.

Compensation

40 hours weekly full time; $13.00 per hour.
