This role provides extraordinary shopping experiences and outstanding service at checkout.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Know and actively demonstrate, daily, our Company Mission Statement and Core Values.
- Maintain uniform standards, as detailed in the Employee Manual, for all worked hours.
- Greet guests with a smiling face, use the Guest Services script, offer the 5% discount, request the Specs Key, call the guest by name when possible, suggest additional items, encourage donation to the charity of the month, and thank the guest for their business.
- Operate cash register or electronic scanner and look up products as needed.
- Ensure proper pricing by scanning the correct barcode.
- Properly use and maintain computers, registers, and scanner equipment.
- Suggestively sell items at the register and offer add‑on items, including the charity of the month.
- Monitor merchandise brought to the register by stockers so accurate amounts are charged.
- Redeem coupons and weigh produce items when required.
- Ask the guest to read and answer the pin pad question before starting the transaction; never answer the pin pad questions for the guest.
- Check acceptable identification when necessary, use 36 sign‑in procedures to ensure legal sales, and maintain professionalism when checking IDs.
- Receive cash, checks, debit cards, credit cards, or gift cards.
- Issue receipts and any change due.
- Accurately count change back to the guest; do not simply hand a bundle of bills and change.
- Bag or box merchandise; use bags only when requested for multiple bottle orders, and use boxes where appropriate. Use bottle protectors only when needed.
- Assist with carry‑outs when needed and feasible.
- Compute and record totals of all transactions on a daily record sheet.
- Call the code for a cash drop as soon as the limit is reached to maintain proper till balance.
- Keep the work area clean and neat and avoid over‑stocking the counter with merchandise.
- Count down the drawer at the end of shift and prepare the final drop.
- Answer questions and provide information to guests.
- Resolve guest complaints with courtesy and respect.
- Avoid conversations with coworkers when guests are present.
- Avoid using a personal cell phone while on the sales floor.
- Stock shelves and check price tags as needed.
- Monitor the checkout station, ensuring all needed tools such as register paper and paper bags are in stock.
- Prepare assigned areas for inventory and assist in inventory when needed.
- Carry out directives from management efficiently.
- Fulfill responsibilities with care and attention to detail.
- Practice teamwork and cooperation with others.
- Possess time‑management skills and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Manage stress in a fast‑paced environment.
- Stand for most of the shift, bend, and walk occasionally; use arms, hands, and fingers to feel, handle, reach, and lift. Lift or move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally using proper techniques and tools; push or pull 50‑100 pounds occasionally. Communicate effectively with team members and guests.
- Work in accordance with all safety regulations of Specs Family Partners and OSHA.
- Perform other projects and tasks assigned by management; this may include restroom cleaning.
- Attendance and timeliness are required; it is difficult to run the register from home.
A high school diploma or GED is preferred. Cashiering experience is preferred but not required.
Language SkillsMust read, comprehend, and write simple instructions or memos. Bilingual skills are a plus.
Mathematical SkillsMust add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, and calculate discounts and percentages.
Demeanor and Personal SkillsSmiley, friendly, helpful; responsible, reliable, committed to extraordinary service; patient, outgoing, self‑starter with a strong work ethic and timely completion of assignments.
HoursFull‑time: approximately 35 hours per week with availability for any shift on Friday or Saturday and at least 80% of all shifts each week. Part‑time: up to 25 hours per week.
Reasoning AbilityApply common sense to carry out instructions given in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
Certificates, LicensesMaintain a valid TABC Beverage Sellers Permit; a Food Handlers Permit may be required. The TABC course takes 2‑3 hours; the company will pay up to 3 hours and deduct the cost from pay after completion.
Physical DemandsRegular standing, walking, bending; lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally with proper technique; occasionally push or pull 50‑100 pounds. Must maintain close vision, depth perception, and focus. Acceptable accommodations may be made.
Work EnvironmentPositive environment with moderate noise levels. Exposure to outside weather conditions may occur during service.
