This internship provides the opportunity to perform a full range of duties related to the functions of the Department. You will have the opportunity to work on real projects that align with your interests and career aspirations. Your role in the group is an important one, your work is taken seriously, and you are counted on as a contributing member of a team.
This internship will culminate in the implementation, as practical, and presentation of a final project that will contribute to both the City of McKinney and your academic and professional development.

Essential duties and responsibilities include assisting with researching local, state, and national programs, policies, etc. to ensure our department is at or above standard, complying with all written City policies and procedures, adhering to assigned work schedule, assisting with research, data analysis, program development and refinement, and other project-related activities, supporting business retention, recruitment, workforce development, marketing, events, and other areas of economic development, working with MEDC staff divisions to support organizational priorities and deliverables, participating in meetings, activities, and professional development opportunities relevant to the role, providing project, administrative, and operational support and performing other duties related to MEDC work, and performing other duties as assigned or directed.

Required qualifications include being currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program at an accredited college. Preferred qualifications include strong research, writing, and analytical skills, proficiency in Excel and/or data management tools, ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks, and interest in economic development, local government, or workforce development. Conditions of employment include passing a drug screen and background check, and having a Class C Texas Driver's License.
